Puffco Peak Pro 3DXL vs New Peak  | In-depth Comparison

For most people, the New Puffco Peak is the better buy. It gives you Puffco’s 3D Chamber flavour, simple one-button controls and a smaller body for a lot less money. The Puffco Peak Pro 3DXL is the better choice if you want app control, exact temperatures and a much bigger chamber for heavy sessions. I’ve used both, and below I break down where each one wins so you can pick the right electric dab rig for how you dab.

The Puffco New Peak is Puffco’s 2024 redesign of the original Peak. It uses Puffco’s 3D Chamber, which heats the walls of the bowl and not just the bottom, plus a Joystick Cap for airflow control. You get four preset heat settings, USB-C charging and around 35 heat cycles per charge, with no app to set up. Boost Mode adds time and heat when you want it, and Intensity Mode (five clicks) adds extra heat for dry dabs without water.

When I first opened mine, the size surprised me. Next to my Peak Pro, it’s noticeably shorter and more compact, and it’s not just the glass. The controls are the same as every other Puffco device, and it hit just as well as I expected. It feels like Puffco took the Peak Pro experience and made a more affordable version of it.

The Peak Pro 3DXL is the Puffco dab rig for people who want control over every part of a session. The 3DXL chamber has a 78% larger bowl than the regular 3D Chamber, and Puffco rates it at up to twice the vapour. Through the Puffco Connect app, you can set exact temperatures, save your own presets, adjust Boost, see a real-time temperature readout and run XL mode for bigger pulls. It also supports Qi wireless charging and comes with a carry case.

The first time I attached the 3DXL chamber, the app popped up a screen telling me I’d unlocked it, and the XL setting showed up in my heat profile. My first hit on Green tasted amazing. Then I loaded a much bigger dab, and this thing rips.

Size and Design

The New Peak is the smaller of the two, and it’s easier to hold and use with one hand. The Peak Pro is bigger and heavier, especially with the 3DXL chamber. Both use Puffco’s glass-and-base design, and the Peak Pro’s glass has a more advanced perc for smoother filtration.

Chamber and Vapour

This is the biggest difference. The 3DXL bowl handles much bigger dabs and puts out denser clouds, and the deeper bowl helps keep your concentrate from spilling over. The New Peak’s 3D Chamber is smaller, so it’s better suited to normal-sized dabs. Both give you clean, even heating and great flavour on the lower settings.

One thing to know: the 3DXL chamber is made for the Peak Pro and doesn’t fit the New Peak.

Temperature Control

Both devices use four colour-coded presets you cycle through with one click. Interestingly, the New Peak’s White preset (590°F) runs hotter out of the box than the Peak Pro’s (575°F). The difference is that the Peak Pro lets you change any preset to the exact degree in the app, while the New Peak’s presets are fixed.

Battery and Charging

The Peak Pro gets around 40 heat cycles per charge, and the New Peak gets around 35. Both charge over USB-C in about 2 hours, and the Peak Pro also works with Qi wireless chargers. Heavy users will be charging either one daily.

Ease of Use

Both use the same button controls: hold to turn on, click to change settings, double-click to heat. The New Peak is as simple as it gets. The Peak Pro works fine with just the button too, but you only get its full value if you use the app.

Chamber Connection

Puffco chambers can be a little finicky, and some people run into connection issues. I use my Puffco devices a lot and rarely have problems, and when I have, it’s always been a quick fix. On either device, taking the chamber out and putting it back in usually sorts it out. The Peak Pro also gets firmware updates through the app, which the New Peak doesn’t.

Portability

Neither one is a pocket device. They’re both home rigs first. The New Peak is lighter, but the Peak Pro comes with a carry case, which makes it easier to bring along safely. If portability matters most, a wax pen is a better fit.

Buy the New Peak if you want great flavour and smooth dabs without an app, you take normal-sized dabs, and you’d rather spend less. It’s beginner-friendly but still good enough to keep experienced dabbers happy.

Buy the Peak Pro 3DXL if you want exact temperature control, take big dabs, and care about getting the densest clouds possible. It’s the better electric dab rig for people who like to tinker.

For most people, the New Peak is the better value. If you already know you want app control and bigger sessions, the Peak Pro 3DXL is worth the step up.
