PAX Mini 2 Review: Still the Best Small Vaporizer for Everyday Carry?
The PAX Mini 2, officially called the PAX Mini and often called the New PAX Mini, is a big step up from the original. PAX added four heat modes, a larger oven and a half-pack lid, while keeping the same slim, pocket-sized body PAX is known for. In many ways, it now offers almost everything the PAX Plus did.
After plenty of hands-on use, it's easy to see why this is one of our favourite vaporizers for use away from home. It's not the most powerful device out there, but for its size, the PAX Mini 2 is hard to beat. If you're ready to buy, you can shop the PAX Mini here.
Temperature
One of the biggest upgrades over the original Mini is the addition of four heat modes. The original Mini had just one setting. Now you can tailor each session, with each mode shown by the LED petals:
- Petal 1 (Purple): 356°F / 180°C. Minimal vapor for discreet sessions.
- Petal 2 (Green): 374°F / 190°C. Stretches your herb over a longer session.
- Petal 3 (Yellow): 392°F / 200°C. A good balance of flavor and vapor.
- Petal 4 (Orange): 420°F / 215°C. The densest vapor and strongest clouds.
Lower settings bring out more flavor, while higher settings produce thicker vapor. There's no precise, degree-by-degree control, but for most people, four modes cover everything they need.
Vapor Performance
The PAX Mini 2 uses conduction heating, which means heat moves into your herb through direct contact with the oven walls. That gives it smooth, consistent vapor, but it works in a specific way that's worth understanding.
It's built for slow, relaxed sessions, not quick, heavy hits. A typical session runs about four to five minutes, with the heat staying on so you can draw whenever you like. Expect around six to nine good draws per bowl, sometimes more.
The draw is slightly restrictive, almost like sipping through a straw, but still smooth. Vapor builds gradually and stays consistent throughout. Beginners and casual users will love the light, smooth feel. If you want thick, heavy clouds, you may find it too mild.
Tip: Because it heats through contact, the PAX Mini 2 performs best with a fairly tight pack. More contact with the oven walls means better heat transfer.
How to Use
The PAX Mini 2 is very easy to use:
- Remove the magnetic oven lid on the bottom and pack your herb firmly. Use the half lid for smaller sessions.
- Replace the lid and attach your preferred mouthpiece.
- Press and hold the button to turn it on. It vibrates, shows your battery level and starts heating.
- Press the button to cycle through the heat modes. It vibrates to confirm your selection.
- When it's ready, it vibrates again. Start drawing.
The Mini 2 also has smart sensors that detect when you're using it or setting it down. If you set it on the table between draws, it enters standby mode, shown by a wavy "X" on the LEDs, to save battery and herb. Pick it up or start drawing and it heats back up automatically.

Build Quality and What's in the Box
It's a PAX, so it's built like a tank. The aluminum body is dense, durable and has a sleek matte finish that feels premium in the hand. PAX devices are known for surviving plenty of drops and daily abuse, and the Mini 2 is no exception.
The oven is stainless steel, and the vapor path runs through the middle of the device, isolated from the battery and electronics. The newer oven screen has larger openings for better airflow than older PAX designs.
In the box: PAX Mini device, multi-tool, 3 oven screens, wire brush, flat and raised mouthpieces, standard oven lid, half oven lid and PAX magnetic charging cable.
The flat mouthpiece is great for discreet pocket carry. The raised one gives a slightly easier, more comfortable draw.
Size and Everyday Use
The PAX Mini 2 has one of the best size-to-performance ratios of any vaporizer. At about 93mm tall and around 90g, it slips easily into any pocket and doesn't draw attention.
This is where the Mini 2 really shines. It's our most-used device for sessions away from home. If you mostly vape at home and want more power, a larger device like the Venty will extract faster. But if you want something portable and discreet, the Mini 2 is easily one of the best choices.
PAX Mini 2 vs PAX Flow: The PAX Flow is a little larger and uses hybrid heating, so it works best with a looser pack and gives shorter sessions. The Mini 2 is smaller, lighter and more affordable, and many users find it more comfortable to hold, since the Flow can run warmer. If you want the most portable PAX, the Mini 2 is the pick.
Battery and Charging Performance
Battery life is about 60 minutes of use per charge, enough for several sessions. Some users notice it runs a bit shorter than the original Mini, likely because the new heat modes and larger oven use more power.
Charging uses PAX's magnetic charging cable, and a full charge takes about 90 minutes. It works well, but it's a proprietary cable (more on that below).
Daily Use and Cleaning
Day to day, the PAX Mini 2 is effortless. One button does everything, haptic feedback tells you what's happening, and standby mode means you don't need to think about saving battery.
Cleaning is simple too. Let it cool, remove the oven lid and clear out spent herb with the multi-tool. Every few sessions, use the wire brush on the vapor path and wipe the oven with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Replace the screen when it's clogged beyond cleaning. A spare PAX Multi-Tool is handy to keep in your bag.
Smell and Stealth
The PAX Mini 2 is one of the most discreet vaporizers you can buy. Its small, minimal design looks more like a gadget than a vaporizer, and the lowest heat mode keeps vapor and smell to a minimum.
Like any small vaporizer, it does get warm toward the end of a session, since heat has less room to escape. A few tips help:
- Hold it by the top half, since the oven is at the bottom.
- Hold it in your hand while it heats, so heat can dissipate.
- Use a lower heat mode for longer sessions.
The One Design Flaw We Noticed
The PAX Mini 2 doesn't have a USB-C port. It only charges with PAX's proprietary magnetic cable. The magnetic charger works well, but it should be in addition to USB-C, not instead of it.
If you forget the cable while travelling, you can't just borrow a phone charger. For a brand as design-focused as PAX, it's a surprising miss. Consider keeping a PAX Charging Tray at home and the cable in your bag.
Final Verdict: Should You Buy the PAX Mini 2?
Yes, especially if you want a small, reliable vaporizer for everyday carry. The PAX Mini 2 now offers almost everything the PAX Plus did, including four heat modes, a larger oven and a half lid, in a slightly smaller body.
It doesn't do any one thing perfectly. It's not the most flavorful or the most efficient vaporizer available. But it's very good at everything, and it's one of the best and most premium small vaporizers you can buy. It's consistent, durable and easy to live with.
The PAX Mini 2 is a great fit if you:
- Mostly vape away from home
- Want something small, discreet and durable
- Prefer slow, relaxed sessions
- Are new to vaporizers
You might prefer something else if you:
- Want big, heavy clouds. Look at the PAX 4 or PAX Flow.
- Mostly vape at home and want the most power.
