Focus V Carta 2 vs Carta Sport: Is the Upgrade Worth It?
If you own a Carta 2, or you're shopping for one, you've probably noticed it's getting hard to find. Focus V discontinued the Carta 2 in July 2025, and the Carta Sport is now the Carta they're building around.
So is the Sport actually better, or just newer? We've used both, and here's how they really compare. If you already know you want the Sport, you can shop the Carta Sport here.
The Quick Verdict
For most people, the Carta Sport is the better buy. It has a bigger battery, it's much easier to clean, and it's the device Focus V is supporting going forward.
The one big exception is the display. The Carta 2 had an onboard screen, and the Sport doesn't. If you relied on that screen to adjust your sessions without touching your phone, the switch will take some getting used to.
Carta 2 vs Carta Sport at a Glance
- Battery: The Carta 2 has a smaller pack. The Carta Sport has a 2,700mAh battery, about 35% bigger.
- Controls: The Carta 2 has an onboard display. The Carta Sport uses one button plus the app.
- Airpath: The Carta 2's airpath is fixed inside the device. The Carta Sport's Carta Connect airpath is removable.
- Atomizer: Both use Intelli-Core atomizers.
- Glass: Both use Carta glass tops.
- Status: The Carta 2 was discontinued in July 2025. The Carta Sport is Focus V's current Carta.
What the Carta 2 Did Really Well
Credit where it's due. The Carta 2 built a loyal following for good reasons.
The display was the big one. You could see your temperature, session progress and battery right on the device, and change settings with a couple of button presses. For a lot of people, that wasn't a bonus feature. It was the whole reason they liked it.
It also felt self-contained. Everything you needed was on the rig itself, without relying on an app. Some dabbers really prefer that, which is why the Sport's missing screen caused such a stir.
What's Better on the Carta Sport
The Sport doesn't just drop the screen and call it a day. It makes three upgrades you'll notice every day.
A bigger battery. The 2,700mAh battery is good for up to 50 dabs per charge. For most people, that's a full day of regular use. The Carta 2 could start running low after a heavy afternoon.
A removable airpath. This is the biggest practical upgrade, and it doesn't get enough attention. On the Carta 2, reclaim builds up inside channels you can't easily reach, and flavour slowly fades before you realize it needs a clean. The Sport's Carta Connect pulls right out. Freeze it for 10 to 15 minutes, scrape out the reclaim, and you're done. If you dab daily, that saves real time.
Simpler controls. One button and colour-coded presets. Once your settings are saved in the app, day-to-day use is dead simple.

The Display Debate
This is really what the whole comparison comes down to.
If you set it and forget it, the Sport is great. Save two or three favourite temperatures in the app, then just use the button. The app gives you even more control over those presets than the Carta 2's screen did.
If you're always tweaking your temperature mid-session based on your concentrate or how the last hit felt, the Sport may frustrate you. Grabbing your phone for every small change adds a step the Carta 2 didn't have.
Neither way is wrong. The Sport is just built for the first type of dabber.
Does the Vapor Taste Any Different?
Not much. Both use Focus V's Intelli-Core atomizers, which heat from all sides for even extraction and good flavour. In real sessions, the difference is very small.
Where the Sport can pull ahead is over time. Because the airpath is so easy to clean, it's easier to keep the Sport tasting like new. A Carta 2 with built-up reclaim in its fixed channels can slowly lose flavour.
If you want a big jump in vapor quality, the Sport isn't it. You'd need to step up to a higher-end rig for that.
Heat Settings
The Carta Sport has five colour-coded presets:
- Blue: 480°F
- Yellow: 495°F
- Green: 515°F
- Purple: 535°F
- Red: 565°F
Tap the button to cycle through them. In the V Browser app, you can adjust each preset to an exact temperature, change session length and customize the lights, or turn them off for stealth sessions.
Battery and Charging
The Carta Sport charges over USB-C in about 90 minutes. The LED shows your battery level at a glance, and with up to 50 dabs per charge, it's a real upgrade over the Carta 2 for heavy users.
Using Your Carta 2 Gear on the Carta Sport
Good news if you're upgrading: your Carta glass tops and Intelli-Core atomizers work on the Carta Sport. You're not starting from scratch, just swapping the base.
Need spares? Grab an Intelli-Core Atomizer for Oil, upgrade to the Intelli-Core Max Atomizer for bigger dabs or replace your glass with the Carta Glass Top Mouthpiece. The Carta Swivel Silicone Accessory Kit covers replacement silicone parts, and the Focus V Saber makes loading easier.
Is the Carta 2 Still Worth Buying?
Only if you find one at a big discount and you really want the display. Since it's been discontinued, you shouldn't expect new features or long-term support. For a new purchase at full price, the Carta Sport is the smarter choice.
How the Carta Sport Compares to Other E-Rigs
Puffco Peak Pro 3DXL: The Peak Pro handles bigger dabs and has a longer warranty, but the Carta Sport has a bigger battery, easier cleaning and a lower price. See our full Carta Sport vs Puffco Peak Pro 3DXL comparison.
Dr Dabber Switch 2: The Switch 2 is a heavy home rig built for serious sessions. The Carta Sport is more of an everyday, grab-and-go e-rig. They're really made for different uses.
Want something even more portable? The Focus V Aeris uses the same Intelli-Core atomizers in a handheld body.
Who Should Get the Carta Sport?

- You dab regularly and don't want maintenance to be a chore
- You're fine using an app to set up your presets

Final Verdict
The Carta 2 had a great run. The Carta Sport keeps what worked, fixes the biggest annoyances and gives you a device with a future. Unless the display is a deal-breaker for you, the Carta Sport is the one to get.
