About the Volcano Classic Vaporizer
The Volcano Classic is the desktop vaporizer that made Storz & Bickel famous. It uses powerful convection heating to fill a balloon with smooth, flavorful vapor that you can enjoy on your own or pass around.
Unlike most modern vaporizers, the Volcano Classic is purely electromechanical. There's no screen, no app and no firmware, just a temperature dial and two switches. That simplicity is a big reason these units are known to last for years.

Everything Else You Need to Know About The Volcano Classic Vaporizer
Build Quality and Materials
Every Volcano Classic is engineered and assembled by hand in Germany. Its fully analog design has very few parts that can fail, which is why so many units are still running strong years after purchase.
The balloons are made from heat-resistant, odour-free material, and the filling chamber comes apart easily for cleaning.
How does it work?
Grind your herb with the included mill and fill the chamber. Set the dial to your temperature and flip on the heat switch. After about 5 minutes, the heat light switches off to show it's at temperature.
Place the filling chamber on the heater, attach a balloon and switch on the air pump. Once the balloon is full, remove it, attach the mouthpiece and inhale at your own pace.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Legendary durability and reliability
- Simple analog controls anyone can use
- Smooth, cool balloon vapor that's easy to share
- More affordable than the Volcano Hybrid
Cons
- About 5 minutes to heat up
- Balloon only, no tube option
- Dial isn't as precise as a digital display
- Must be plugged in to use
Temperature Settings
The Volcano Classic uses a numbered dial that covers 266°F to 446°F (130°C to 230°C). You can set it on a number or anywhere between two marks for finer control.
Lower settings bring out more flavor, while higher settings produce denser vapor. Many users start around 356°F (180°C) and adjust to taste.
Features That Stand Out
The Easy Valve balloon system is what the Volcano is known for. The balloon fills quickly, the valve closes automatically when you remove it, and you can inhale slowly without the vapor escaping.
Prefer reusable bags? The Volcano Classic also works with the Solid Valve system, which uses balloon material you cut to length.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Brush the screens with the included cleaning brush after each session. Take the filling chamber apart regularly and clean it with isopropyl alcohol to remove buildup.
For hygiene, Storz & Bickel recommends replacing Easy Valve balloons and mouthpieces about every two weeks. Wipe the outside of the unit with a damp cloth, and always unplug it first.
Flavor and Cloud Performance
Convection heating warms the air, not the herb directly, which gives the Volcano its clean, full flavor. Filling a balloon lets the vapor cool before you inhale, so hits are smooth even at higher temperatures.
Accessories And Parts That Fit
Keep fresh balloons on hand with the Volcano Easy Valve Bag Set or a spare Easy Valve Balloon with Adapter. A second Easy Valve Filling Chamber for Herbs lets you prep your next session ahead of time.
Replacement parts include the Volcano Normal Screen Set, the Easy Valve Normal Screen Set (Small) and the Easy Valve Wear & Tear Kit.
For the Solid Valve system, use the Solid Valve Filling Chamber Housing with Volcano 3M Balloon Bags. If you own an older Solid Valve Volcano, the Volcano Easy Valve Starter Kit converts it to Easy Valve. Browse everything in our Storz & Bickel Volcano parts collection.
Where This Fits in Your Setup
