New Proxy (Proxy Pipe Kit) vs Original Puffco Proxy

The biggest difference between the New Puffco Proxy and the original is power. The New Proxy has a deeper chamber that heats the bottom and sides, a bigger battery and app control, and it hits more like a rig than a sipper. Your old Proxy glass works with it too. The original still has a few things going for it, like glass that sits flat and a compact padded travel case. But for almost everyone, the New Proxy is the better device.

The original Proxy has been discontinued, and Puffco now sells the New Proxy as the Puffco Proxy Pipe Kit. If you own an original and are wondering whether to upgrade, this breakdown covers everything that changed.

The original Proxy’s 3D Chamber heated from the side walls, which gave smooth, silky hits that were great for flavour. It was more of a sipper, though, and splashback into the air path was a common complaint.

The New Proxy’s 3D Chamber heats the bottom and sides, and it’s about 30% taller than the original’s. That extra depth cuts down on splashback, and the added power gives you denser clouds and harder, more rig-like hits. In my experience, it definitely performs better.

The one catch is that the chambers aren’t cross-compatible. Original Proxy chambers won’t fit the New Proxy, and New Proxy chambers won’t fit the original.

The New Proxy has a 1680mAh battery, compared to 1350mAh in the original, about 25% more capacity. Because it also runs more powerfully, you don’t get a huge jump in sessions. Expect about 15 to 20 sessions per charge on the New Proxy, compared to around 15 on the original.

Both charge over USB-C in about 1.5 hours, and both let you use the device while it’s plugged in.

This is the biggest upgrade. The original Proxy had no app. You picked from four colour-coded presets, and that was it. The New Proxy connects to the Puffco Connect app over Bluetooth. You can set exact temperatures from 400°F to 644°F, change session length, adjust Boost, change your vapour level, customize the LED colours and adjust the auto shut-off timer.

You don’t need the app, though. The New Proxy still works great with just the button, using four presets from 490°F to 545°F.

Puffco also improved the controls. The LED on the New Proxy is a lot more visible, and the button works much better than the original’s, which was a little too small.

The original Proxy’s glass lay flat, which made it very stable on a table, but the mouthpiece rested against the surface. The New Proxy’s glass stands upright, which keeps the mouthpiece clean and makes it more comfortable to hold. The trade-off is that it can feel a little tippy. Honestly, it just looks so nice that it won me over.

The new glass is also thicker and sturdier than the original’s.

The original Proxy came with a compact, padded travel case, which was great for taking it out. The New Proxy doesn’t come with a real carry case. It ships in a bulkier box you can store it in, and it doesn’t fit the original’s case. I didn’t use the old case much anyway. I usually just bring my Proxy around as is.

The New Proxy is also a little bigger and heavier, so the original had a slightly smaller footprint.

If you’ve built up a collection of Proxy glass, good news: all of it works with the New Proxy. I still use my original Proxy Bub on my New Proxy, and it fits perfectly.

What doesn’t carry over:

• Original Proxy chambers don’t fit the New Proxy.
• The original travel case doesn’t fit the New Proxy.
• The Puffco Proxy Core accessory only works with the New Proxy, not the original.

If your original Proxy still works and you love its smooth, flavour-focused hits, there’s no rush. It’s still a great device.

Upgrade if you want harder hits and bigger clouds, app control, less splashback, a brighter LED and a better button, or if you want to use the Proxy Core. Since your glass carries over, you only need the new base and chamber to get started.

The New Proxy isn’t perfect:

• The battery is still on the short side for heavy users.
• It’s a little bulkier than the original, and it doesn’t come with a real carry case.
• The upright glass isn’t as stable as the original’s flat design.
• More tech means more to learn if you want to use the app.

The New Proxy is a clear upgrade. It keeps everything that made the original fun, especially the modular glass, and adds the power, battery and app control the original was missing.
